FLOWSTER FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

Question 1

Who is FLOWSTER Solutions?

Accepted Answer

FLOWSTER Solutions GmbH from Potsdam is a German software company that develops specialized solutions for the automation and orchestration of IT and business processes. The main platform FLOWSTER Studio enables companies to automate complex workflows in a model-based and rule-based manner – regardless of whether they run in cloud, on-premises, or hybrid environments.

Question 2

What tasks does FLOWSTER handle in process automation?

Accepted Answer

FLOWSTER automates recurring IT tasks, connects isolated systems, and ensures efficient workflows in areas such as ITSM, user management, infrastructure provisioning, and compliance monitoring. The goal is to reduce manual activities, increase transparency, and ensure sustainable governance.

Question 3

What is FLOWSTER Studio from a technical perspective?

Accepted Answer

FLOWSTER Studio is a web-based automation platform with modular architecture and service-oriented design. It uses modern APIs and connectors to link systems from IT, cloud, and business processes. The engine is based on Low Code/No Code for process modeling and allows non-developers to design workflows visually.

Question 4

What core features does FLOWSTER Studio offer?

Accepted Answer

FLOWSTER Studio offers: Workflow Design with an intuitive interface for modeling, parameterization, and versioning of automation processes. Orchestration through automated control and execution via a workflow engine. Logging & Audit with execution logging, reporting, dashboards, and system events. Role-based access control (RBAC) with differentiated access control at user, workflow, and object level. Cloud-Ready Deployment as on-premises, private, or public cloud solution.

Question 5

How easy is it for users to work with?

Accepted Answer

Thanks to the No-Code/Low-Code approach, workflows can be configured entirely graphically. Reusable workflow components, parameter templates, and integrated validations make implementation easy even without programming knowledge.

Question 6

What are the system requirements?

Accepted Answer

FLOWSTER Studio runs on Windows Server systems and uses Microsoft SQL Server.

Question 7

What integrations are available?

Accepted Answer

FLOWSTER offers a comprehensive range of standard integrations with common enterprise systems and IT tools. Via REST, SOAP, and PowerShell connectors, virtually all modern IT systems can be connected. Frequently used integrations include: Microsoft 365 & Azure for user management, license management, provisioning, deprovisioning. Active Directory / LDAP for user rights, roles, groups, and policies. VMware & Hyper-V for virtual machine provisioning, snapshots, network automation. ServiceNow, Matrix42 & Jira for ITSM process integration. AWS, Google Cloud & OpenStack for automated provisioning and lifecycle management of cloud resources. SAP & ERP systems via RFC or web service interfaces. Email, Exchange & Teams for automated communication workflows and admin functions.

Question 8

How do integrations work technically?

Accepted Answer

Integrations are realized through our activities. These are configurable and support authentication via OAuth 2.0, Token-Auth, API keys, or certificates. All processes can be individually created via API Designer and parameterized.

Question 9

Can FLOWSTER integrate existing scripts and automations?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Existing scripts (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python) are integrated directly as "Script Actions" and can be triggered by workflows. FLOWSTER can also be used for version management here.

Question 10

How does monitoring and error handling work for integrations?

Accepted Answer

The system centrally monitors the execution of all processes and provides customized success messages, warnings, and error messages in real-time. Dashboards visualize status, runtimes, and resource states.

Question 11

What makes FLOWSTER particularly flexible?

Accepted Answer

The platform is characterized by its modular structure. All components – Engine, Execution Agent, Workflow Designer, Web Frontend – can be operated independently or combined. This results in a highly scalable solution.

Question 12

How are recurring processes optimized?

Accepted Answer

Recurring process patterns can be saved via templates and workflow sets. These sets are centrally managed, versioned, and can be distributed company-wide – for example, for user onboarding or cloud backup automation.

Question 13

How does the FLOWSTER Scheduler work?

Accepted Answer

An integral part of the platform is the time and event scheduler. Workflows can be started at fixed intervals, dynamic events (API call, event trigger), or manually.

Question 14

What reporting and analysis functions are available?

Accepted Answer

FLOWSTER automatically creates execution logs, platform logs, and workflow statistics. Export formats: PDF/A, CSV, JSON. Audit logs can additionally be stored in an audit-proof manner according to individual requirements and customization.

Question 15

How does FLOWSTER support multi-cloud environments?

Accepted Answer

Via the FLOWSTER Multi Cloud Portal, resources – whether Azure, AWS, or private cloud – can be managed through a unified interface. Multi-tenant architecture enables operation across departmental and national boundaries.

Question 16

How can specialized applications or legacy systems be integrated?

Accepted Answer

FLOWSTER offers open REST endpoints and data import mechanisms via CSV, Excel, or database queries. This allows even outdated systems (e.g., ERP or mainframes) to be integrated.

Question 17

How does FLOWSTER work with ticket systems or ITSM tools?

Accepted Answer

FLOWSTER does not sell its own ITSM solution but extends existing systems. Workflows can automate tasks that would normally generate tickets – such as creating a user account or updating a service object.

Question 18

What authentication protocols are available?

Accepted Answer

SAML 2.0 for Single Sign-On, LDAP integration for Active Directory environments, token authentication via API, and authentication via cloud identity providers such as Entra-ID or Google.

Question 19

What does FLOWSTER offer for administrators?

Accepted Answer

Administrators can centrally manage systems, groups, permissions, and workflows. Status reports and KPIs can be accessed via dashboards. API usage can be controlled and limited.

Question 20

Are there options for developers?

Accepted Answer

Yes. FLOWSTER provides REST and script APIs that enable the integration of custom functions. Additionally, integration modules can be created independently.

Question 21

How are systems migrated or versioned?

Accepted Answer

Workflows are fully versioned and can be exported, backed up, and moved between staging and production environments.

Question 22

How does FLOWSTER support CI/CD processes?

Accepted Answer

Via CLI tools or API calls, FLOWSTER can be integrated into Jenkins, GitLab CI, and Azure DevOps. Automated deployments and regression tests are possible.

Question 23

How is data protection ensured?

Accepted Answer

All communication channels are TLS-encrypted (TLS 1.2+). User and process data can be restricted on a role basis. In addition, FLOWSTER complies with GDPR, BSI IT baseline protection, and ISO 27001 requirements.

Question 24

How does FLOWSTER support auditability?

Accepted Answer

FLOWSTER logs all administrative sessions.

Question 25

What security features are integrated?

Accepted Answer

Certificate management, encrypted system connections, tenant separation, role and resource control, as well as audit and reporting functions according to GRC requirements.

Question 26

What innovative features is FLOWSTER planning?

Accepted Answer

FLOWSTER is developing AI-powered workflow modeling so that workflow frameworks can be built together with AI. Additionally, FLOWSTER is currently being transformed into a platform-independent solution that will also support container deployments in the future.

Question 27

How are integrations with current systems maintained?

Accepted Answer

Through continuous updates, it is ensured that newly released API versions (e.g., Microsoft Graph, ServiceNow, or Azure AD) are automatically supported.
